Why stone setting costs vary so much

Setting price depends on skill required, stone size, setting complexity, tool investment, and risk of damage. A €5,000 diamond carries different pressure than a €1 CZ — even if the technique is identical.

Setting types and their complexity

Prong / claw setting

Most common, fastest to learn, lowest risk. Typical: €5 – €10 per stone.

Bezel setting

Requires more metalwork; fully encases the stone. Typical: €8 – €15 per stone.

Channel setting

Multiple stones in a row, must be aligned perfectly. Typical: €6 – €10 per stone.

Pavé setting

Dense layout, requires magnification, high skill. Typical: €8 – €15 per stone.

Micro-pavé

Extremely precise, 0.5 – 1 mm stones, specialist work. Typical: €10 – €20 per stone.

Invisible setting

No visible metal, stones appear floating. Very high skill. Typical: €18 – €30 per stone.

CZ vs diamond labor — is there a difference?

Yes. Lower stakes with CZ means most setters charge less — typical CZ setting is €2 – €4 per stone. Same technique, lower risk premium.
